It has been one year since I started writing again.
I still remember the morning I decided to do it. We were at Center Parcs with the family, there to mark my dad’s 75th birthday. I was up early while everyone else was asleep, went back to the old blog and decided to post something. That first post was called It’s been a while. There was no grand plan behind it. I just wanted to start writing again and see if I could keep it up.
A year later, I will have published just over 60 articles. The site has had about 17,000 views from about 10,000 visitors, and 35 people have subscribed. In the grand scheme of the internet, those are still small numbers. But this was never really a numbers or vanity project. I started writing again because I enjoyed writing, and because I wanted to spend a little more time producing things rather than simply consuming them. It was very much a passion project.
One of the nicest surprises has been meeting people who mention that they do read the blog or my LinkedIn posts and enjoy the content. It has been a reminder that there are people reading even when they do not necessarily comment, like or otherwise make themselves known.
For a while I was publishing two or three times a week. That pace has slowed as other parts of life have become busier, although I still have a long list of things I want to write about. There is also plenty I would still like to do with the site itself. All of that can take time.
What matters more to me is that I am still here writing. A year ago, I wondered whether I would actually keep it up. The answer is, I have.
